Vinyl, or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), is favored in the toy industry for its flexibility, durability, and excellent color-retention properties. These characteristics make it ideal for producing a wide range of art figures, from detailed miniatures to sizable collectible vinyl figures. The process begins with your art designs. We collaborate closely with artists and clients to refine their initial concepts. This stage involves sketching, discussing potential designs, and finalizing the details before moving forward.

Action figures are sometimes called collectible toys, dolls, and action figurines but action figure is still the most popular term. Maybe as you hold one in your hand you’ve found yourself wondering what this little toy is and how it’s made. Merriam Webster defines an action figure as “a small-scale figure (as of a superhero) used especially as a toy”. We find this definition to be lacking. It does not exactly make it clear what action figures are. In fact, it makes it a bit confusing. We know that action figures are more than toys and that action figures are not just for superheroes.

Most plastic/vinyl figures require the creation of complex molds in order to cast the material at high temperature and pressures. Custom vinyl toys have been around for several decades, evolving over the years to become a popular collectible item. This mold making process is typically about 25-30 days. Actual manufacturing time for plastic/vinyl following the creation of the molds is usually in the range of 30-45 days — again this depends on quantities and complexity of each design. Once production is completed, delivery times via ocean are approximately 30-40 days, while air freight times can vary from 2-10 days depending on the freight carrier.  Rush orders that can reduce full production times by roughly 40% are usually possible for an additional fee.

How To Produce Custom Vinyl Toys

Creating custom vinyl toys requires a combination of artistic vision and technical skill. The process typically involves prototyping and production, with each step requiring careful attention to detail. Several companies specialize in custom vinyl toy manufacturing, offering services such as design work, prototyping, and tooling. The cost of producing custom vinyl toys can vary depending on factors such as size, complexity, and quantity, with prices ranging from a few dollars to several hundred dollars per unit.
