Understand the Material of Plastic toys to Help Choose

Plastic toys have become the best partner for children to explore the unknown and stimulate their imagination. With the progress of science and technology and material science development by leaps and bounds, today’s plastic toy materials are no longer limited to the traditional category. Toys are not just instruments of amusement. Over the centuries, they’ve also been tools for teaching, symbols of cultural expression, and artifacts of technological evolution. Understand the Material of Plastic toys to Help Choose

Many parents in the baby to buy toys will consider the safety of toys, because the baby in the teething stage will often chew toys, in many cases parents can not do all the time to watch the baby, so when the baby chewing toys are too late to stop.

Toys are a wonderful way to provide kids with fun learning opportunities, and plastic allows these toys to be made with high-quality materials that are safe for children. What are the common materials for plastic toys, Plastics commonly used in toy manufacturing include:

ABS: Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene terpolymer with good plating, impact strength, dimensional stability, and abrasion and heat resistance. In addition, ABS can also be blended with PVC and other materials to improve toughness, flame resistance and aging resistance.

MBS (Transparent ABS): polymethacrylate butadiene styrene copolymer, transparent, good toughness, acid and alkali resistance, good fluidity, easy to form colouring, dimensional stability.

PS material: including GPPS (polystyrene hard plastic) and HIPS (modified polystyrene). GPPS is highly transparent, HIPS is opaque, but has better impact resistance. The two can be mixed as needed to balance gloss, fluidity and strength.

PP (polypropylene): a crystalline plastic, lightweight, good colouring, high chemical stability, good abrasion resistance and good impact resistance at room temperature. However, the moulding shrinkage is large and the size is unstable. PP is often used for toys like building blocks and board games. It’s known for its durability and safety.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride): PVC is commonly used in bath toys, action figures, and dolls. However, it’s important to note that some PVC toys may contain phthalates, which are considered harmful, so check for phthalate-free PVC toys. a non-crystalline plastic, transparent raw materials, by adding plasticiser can make the material soft and hard range. It is flame retardant and self-extinguishing, but its thermal stability is poor.PVC is mainly used for enamelling and making figures.

Kids toys outside made of bisphenol A

Bisphenol A (commonly known as BPA) has long been used in kids plastic outdoor playset, milk bottles, dental sealants, and even hot-melt tapes.

For bespoke toys, we pay great attention to detail design and many of our customers provide detailed design requirements, including the shape, colour and size of the toy. They may also ask for specific elements or features to be included to meet children’s play needs.

Toy Safety -What About The Risks of Chemicals in Toys

Although there have been some concerns in the past about plastic toys and chemicals in toys, the main concern was about the use of chemicals called phthalates. Phthalates are a group of chemicals used as plasticisers in many products, including cosmetics, but have been used in toys in the past.

Phthalates have been linked in the past to reproductive system disorders as well as an increased risk of asthma and cancer. For these reasons, a toy safety directive by the EU banned the use of phthalates in any plastic toys that were likely to be chewed or sucked on by small children, although the plastics industry vehemently denied that there was any discernible risk.

Plastics in Toy Manufacturing

Plastics is a highly versatile material. It can be molded into a nearly limitless array of shapes and sizes, making it perfect for creating toys. Plastic toys range from action figures and building blocks to dolls and toy vehicles. The variety of plastics used in their production ensures safety, durability, and flexibility.

Almost all kids’ plastic outdoor playsets are safe. Most toys are now made of polybutylene terephthalate plastic: you can visually distinguish these toys because they are brightly colored, shiny and very impact resistant. Regardless of the type of plastic you encounter, it is always wise to discard or recycle plastic objects with obvious signs of wear or degradation.
